Welcome to Scottish Universities Badminton!

For many years university badminton has provided social and competitive opportunities at a number of levels for a vast number of Scottish students. Many of the universities in Scotland run weekly clubs during term time with large membership numbers, encompassing all ages, nationalities and standards. 11 universities compete in the Scottish Universities League and many also enter players into the Scottish and British Universities Individual Championships. There are also other tournaments at home and abroad for you to get involved in, whatever standard you play at.

This section of the website provides information about all the opportunities in university badminton, including News, Events, Tournament Calendar, Results and important Contact Information. I hope you find it useful and if you are not already at university but are considering it in the near future, we hope to see you on the uni badminton circuit soon!

Considering University…?

Whether you are a social, club or former tournament player or even a current Internationalist, there are many opportunities for you to become involved in university badminton:

Weekly club sessions for games/practice (some unis have regular coaches) Term time

5 Scottish Universities League team matches (home and away) October-February

A trip to Nottingham to compete in the British Universities Individual Championships in November against the top players from all over the country

2 exciting new Scottish Universities Students & Former Students (SUSAFS) events have recently been added to the circuit to welcome back players of all standards from past years to compete on court (and socially!) with the current students. There is a Xmas Level Doubles event and an Easter Mixed Doubles event

A weekend at the Scottish Universities Individual Championships in February. One of the largest entries on the Scottish Badminton calendar, with players from all teams competing over 2 days. The event culminates with the famous annual Scot Unis prizegiving dinner and ceilidh

For the top teams in the Scottish league, there is the opportunity to play against the best university teams from around the country in the British Universities Team Knockouts in March

For the top players, there are Scottish and British University Representative Teams to be selected for, with various matches held throughout the season. The top event for the Scottish Universities Team each season is the British University Games (BUGS), where they compete against the English, Irish and Welsh Universities Team

A trip to an ISBT (International Student Badminton Tournament) is tremendous fun. Hosted throughout the year by universities in over 10 different European cities, these events are run to a high standard but at very minimal cost and have competitions for all standards of player. Read more about them in the events section

Lots of social opportunities to make new badminton mates in Scotland and all over Europe and meet up to play with (and against) former badminton friends
